During the 18th century locks were based on movable levers and the most popular were designed by Barron and Chub. Later that century Joseph Bramah developed a cylindrical key with notches along the surface. These moved metal slides into alignment enabling the lock to be opened. He claimed that his locks was unpickable and they became very popular here in Wrexham as well as the rest of the UK.
